HDNA Part 2 is Here: Peyton, Timberlake and a cast of celebs

author Marcy Cohen posted 8/18/2009

Back to School season is in full swing but Sony's got Holiday on our minds as we gear up to launch a new pre-holiday HDNA marketing campaign this Fall.

Justin Timberlake, Peyton Manning and a cast of diverse celebrities will grab the attention of the average couch potato with the launch of our upcoming ad campaign. The campaign, an expansion of last year's Panel of Experts spots featuring Manning, features a new and bigger panel of experts that guide in-store shoppers through their purchase decision.

The rest of the cast includes ESPN reporter, Erin Andrews; fashion photographer and "America's Next Top Model" judge, Nigel Barker; author and comedienne, Amy Sedaris; columnist and Web celebrity, Julia Allison; and award-winning cinematographer, Dion Beebe.

Each help convey why shoppers should consider Sony products including BRAVIA HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc players, Cyber-shot and Alpha cameras, Handycam camcorders, Sony Reader digital books and VAIO notebook computers.

The campaign was announced today at a press event in New York City with Sony Electronics COO Stan Glasgow, CMO Mike Fasulo and SVP of Marketing Stuart Redsun.  After sharing details of the state of the business they unveiled sneak peeks of two of the TV spots which will air beginning in September.

Journalists from the Reuters, Associated Press, Financial Times, CNET, Gizmodo and Ad Age seemed to like what they saw of  the rough cuts of the commercials. (Actually, NYTimes got a special sneak peek last week which resulted in today's coverage of the campaign)

So mark your calendars for September 10th which is when "Panel" will officially launch in TV spots, radio, online video, banners and at your favorite electronics retail stores.

C, thanks for the comment... in the Web2.0 world, a lot of people would consider Julia Allison a celebrity... or maybe the term is "digirati" ;). Thanks for leaving a comment! --sukhjit

I've heard of Peyton Manning & Timberlake and recognize the Chinese girl from the commercials but, Who's Julia? She doesn't look familiar and I'm confused how she can be a celeb, if she's and unknown. Can someone be a celebrity if they're.... unknown?

Hey Katie, nice to see you and thanks for leaving a comment. Yeah, it takes all kinds for the world to go round, Julia and the rest of the panel experts did a pretty great job in our campaign. I have not read NonSociety, but might pick it up. Thanks again for leaving a comment and being a positive voice! Take care, Sukhjit - Sony Electronics

Whoa, Diana seems to have quite a personal problem with Julia Allison. I know there are a lot of people out there who don't like Julia but I'm sure there are people out there who don't like Justin Timberlake or Nigel Barker. I'm personally a fan of Julia Allison and enjoy reading NonSociety. I'm excited for her to be a part of something like this and will enjoy seeing the entire campaign.

Thanks for sharing your feedback Diana- we appreciate the honesty. The entire campaign is definitely worth checking out, regardless of whether you like or dislike some of the talent in the campaign. Some of it is hilarious as we get to engage with different aspects of our technology and products. Let us know what you think when the whole campaign launches.

"columnist and Web celebrity, Julia Allison" Really, and which column does Ms Allison currently write? As far as I am aware she has no writing gigs at present, having being fired from all of them. As for being a "Web celebrity" I would suggest "infamous in a small circle" is a better way to describe it. Really, her online reputation is nothing but negative and surely such an esteemed brand as Sony would not want to associate itself someone so unprofessional and unpredictable.
