The Sony eBook Store changes to EPUB format

eBook fans, we have heard you- 

To help stop the confusion among all the digital book formats, we plan on converting our eBook store to the industry-standard EPUB format by the end of the year. By adopting an open standard, our eBook store will be compatible with multiple devices and our Readers can access multiple sources for content. Right now, our current Reader devices support EPUB and our newly announced Reader Pocket Edition and Reader Touch Edition will too. If you have a PRS 500,  we won't leave you out in the cold. There will be an update path. If you are interested in learning when it's available, please send an email to feedback@ebookstore.sony.com with "500" in the subject line and we'll drop you a line when the process is up and running.

You'll start to see more and more EPUB content become available in the coming months and that means more for you to read. What's better than that?

I just purchased the new e-reader 600, I like to know if I could download books from Amazon.ca, and are there any other sites to download books, since the books I'm interested are not there. I'm not to happy with my reader book, I thought I would be able to buy and have my books faster and instead I can't have them cause there not for sale.

Just purchased a Sony Reader. So far so good. I have successfully purchased and downloaded to my reader 2 books. However I wish to purchase a book which is only available in the U.S. (Rules of Vengeance by Christoper Reich) Why can't I purchase this book in the Sony ebook store in Canada?

Thanks for your questions. Right now we are determining the best (and easiest for Reader owners) way to implement the update. We'll keep you updated on the blog as we get closer to the changeover time. In the meantime, feel free to email feedback@ebookstore.sony.com with "500" in the subject line and we'll send you a notification as soon as the solution is available.

As a Prs 500 owner I also would like to know what update path means: Is it a trade in program ? Is it a software update ??? I am hoping for a firmware update...

Valerie, what exactly is that "update path"? Firmware update? Trade-in program? Something else?
